While attending NYU for a BA in Global Liberal Studies, Sophie took interest in issues regarding gender violence, including an expansive research project on intersex identity and politics* (“InterVU: The Global Ethics of Intersex Identity, Desire, and Politics” 2013) and graduated with distinction from her MA program in French Studies.
Besides working with international Francophone high school students for the FACE Foundation’s French Heritage Language Program in New York City, she also worked at the International Rescue Committee with primary school students whose families were seeking asylum in the United States as refugees.
As the outreach educator and program assistant at Inside Out Youth Services in Colorado Springs, Sophie continued her advocacy and educational outreach work back home in Colorado from 2016 to 2019 for LGBTIQ+ young people. Nominated in 2019 as a CS Business Journal Rising Star, Sophie continues to work with the Colorado Springs community to empower young LGBTIQ+ people and allies in becoming a network of trusted adults–a critical aspect in suicide prevention work and public health safety.
For the past 6 years, Sophie has also been creating a social art movement that involves holding hands with strangers. Follow @AHand2Hold on Instagram and Twitter. AHand2Holdproject.com
